What a busy month it's been! I can't believe we are entering September already. 2017 has flew by, and so has summer. I haven't wore too much makeup in the month of August since I was on vacation for half the month, and then I came back to Canada only to start packing and moving back to school. When I have been caking my face, I've been really focusing on the face - having a flawless base is of course, goals. Keep reading to discover my August favourites!

Primers are essential in my daily makeup routine. I've been loving the combination of these two primers for many reasons. One, it provides the perfect amount of moisture to my face. As a girl with combination-oily skin, I'm always very cautious when using products that claim to be "moisturizing". That's why I was so surprised to find myself constantly reaching for the Glossier Priming Moisturizer (CAD $27). Not only do I see a visible difference in the moisture level of my skin, I also notice an increase in the longevity of my cream face products due to its slightly tacky finish.
I apply the Glossier primer on after I spray my face with the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water (CAD $39). With this combination, I notice my t-zone oils being controlled while the drier areas on my face (my cheeks) are moisturized. The Smashbox primer further prolongs my foundation wear as it too is a little tacky when dried.
If you have combination skin and are looking for products to help with the oiliness and dryness of your skin (especially since the colder months are fast approaching), I highly recommend these two goodies.
L'oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

With the hotter weather in the summer (especially while I was on vacation), I developed a renewed appreciation for the L'oreal Infallible Pro-Matte foundation (CAD ~$16.96). This lasts all day on my face, even in the very humid conditions in Dallas. The finish is beautiful as it does not dry down to a complete matte - L'oreal describes the finish as "demi matte" which I think is the perfect description for its finish as there is a slight sheen to it when dried.
The only complaint I have about this foundation is its lack of ability to blend due to its speed in drying down. This, coupled with the fact that this foundation is so thick, create the difficulty of evenly blending it out on the face. However, this is a small issue to me as adding a drop or two of beauty oil to the foundation will solve this problem.
Cinema Secrets Ultralucent Setting Powder

The Cinema Secrets Ultralucent Setting Powder in Colourless (CAD $29) is definitely a game-changer in my foundation routine. This powder helps control my oily t-zone, while giving my skin a luminous finish. At first, I couldn't believe the effects of this powder - I have never tried a translucent powder that could make my skin look slightly dewy while still be able to keep my oils in control. There is 0.60 oz of product, but a little powder goes a long way - I use a huge powder brush to pat a little bit of powder into my skin, paying close attention my t-zone.
I also use this powder set my undereyes and carve out my contour with a damp beauty sponge. This does a great job at giving me very structured cheekbones. When setting my undereye concealer, I do notice that it makes my undereyes a bit dry and crepe-y-feeling, but nothing too uncomfortable. There is no powdery finish when used with a damp beauty sponge, which I very much appreciate because no one wants a white and powdery undereye!
Mac Cosmetics Pro Longwear Lip Pencil

Last product I've been loving in August is the Mac Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in the shade Cultured (CAD $25). This is a very nude shade, which is why I love wearing it under literally every shade of nude lipstick I own. It is creamy, but not too creamy, and not drying at all. There is a noticeable increase in the wear of my lipsticks when this is applied underneath.
I remember making this purchase on a whim after my local Mac was out of the Subculture lip liner. Now, I am very glad I bought Cultured instead of Subculture. The Mac Pro Longwear Lip Pencils apply to my lips a lot more smoothly than the regular lip pencils (CAD $22). The $3 difference is definitely worth it in my opinion.
That's it for my August Favourites. Let me know in the comments what beauty products you were loving for the month of August!
