Probably one of the most anticipated launches in the beauty industry (definitely one that I was most excited for) is the Fenty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipsticks* (CAD $23). I believe this lipstick line launched on December 26, but funny enough, I picked up my first one almost a month later. Why did I decide to purchase my first Fenty lippie that much later when I was so excited about their release? Keep reading to find out!
The Fenty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipsticks are ultra-slim matte lipsticks that provide your lips with high-pigment colour, without the extra added weight. These have a rich and creamy formula without the feathering or bleeding post-application. The wide variety of shades was created to flatter all skin tones.
These lipsticks are formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. Fenty Beauty is 100% cruelty-free.
The Fenty lipsticks come in a slim plastic packaging that's extremely lightweight. This was the first thing I noticed when I swatched the lipsticks in-store the day it was released. I wasn't (and still am not) a fan of how lightweight and "cheap" the packaging feels in my hands, especially for a lipstick that claims to have such luxurious quality.
What made me put down all the shades and walk out of Sephora without them is the amount of product you get in one lipstick. For $23, you get 0.06 oz of product. Compared to an Urban Decay Vice lipstick (one of the least expensive ones at Sephora) which has 0.11 oz for $22, the Fenty lippies are SO SO SO small. I definitely did not think it was worth the money, especially at that time since Christmas had literally just passed.
Besides my disappointment with Fenty lipsticks' packaging and amount, the actual product is SUPER high quality. All the shades are insanely pigmented, even the colourful ones like Midnight Wasabi (green), Ya Dig?! (light blue), and Clapback (navy blue), which is so satisfying because it's so difficult to find a pigmented lipstick in the greens and blues these days. One swipe is enough to cover the entire lip (but I like to go in with two swipes for extra opaqueness).
With a lippie this matte and pigmented, I'm shocked at how non-drying the formula is. I've worn the shade S1ngle for about five hours without reapplication, and my lips just felt slightly dehydrated at the end of the day. With that being said, if your lips are already dry, this lipstick will emphasize lines and dry patches when worn for a longer period of time. I'd recommend wearing a light layer of lip balm or lip primer underneath to smooth out and hydrate the lip.
Next amazing thing about these lipsticks: they last for so long on the lips! I can go about five to six hours without reapplication (this is really something since I like to reapply my lipsticks at the first signs of fading).
Although I'm not the biggest fan of their packaging, the lipstick formula is really unique due to its high pigmentation with just one swipe. However, if you ask me if these are worth picking up, I'd have to say not immediately. I'd definitely recommend trying out a shade or two at some point, but only if you are looking to splurge or if you have a bit of money to spare.
Have you tried the Fenty Mattemoiselle lipsticks? I'd love to know your thoughts on them, so be sure to leave me a comment!
