Calling all unicorn lovers, this one's for you!
Like every other person who was obsessed with the unicorn trend back in the summer, I wanted to douse myself with whimsical colours and shimmers. I picked up the Tarte Make Believe In Yourself: Eye & Cheek Palette (CAD $52, now $39) right when it was released because of the beautiful shimmers. However, this palette was quickly put on sale, which really surprised me.

There are ten eyeshadows and one highlighting shade in the Tarte Make Believe In Yourself palette. Nine of the ten shades are shimmery foiled shadows while there is only one matte shade for blending, thus deterring me from taking this with me when I travel.
Clockwise starting from the matte shade:
Myth (matte nude), Magic (bronze shimmer), Wings (copper shimmer), Marvel (metallic sage shimmer), Trance (taupe slate shimmer), Fairy (metallic lavender shimmer), Mystic (blue pearl shimmer), Dream (turquoise shimmer), Crystal (iridescent champagne shimmer), Pixie (golden pink shimmer).
Tarte's eyeshadows are formulated without parabens and phthalates.
The Tarte Make Believe In Yourself palette is in a sturdy circular packaging, like their Rainforest of the Sea eyeshadow palettes. The front of the palette has a really cool design with gradient geometric shapes in very eye-appealing colours. Once you open the palette, there is a decent-sized circular mirror. The interior of the palette is a reflective shiny gold. The eyeshadows are in pentagonal-shaped pans surrounding the highlighting powder in the middle of the palette. Each pan is 0.105 oz.
The Tarte Make Believe in Yourself palette has nine shimmer shadows that are SO beautiful and unique. However they do vary in consistency - Pixie, Mystic, and Myth (the matte shade) feel very creamy and buttery to the touch, while the others feel quite gritty.
Pixie, Mystic, and Myth are extremely pigmented, and a little goes a long way with these three. However, the other shadows are a little less pigmented and need to be packed on a bit more in order to achieve the same quality of pigmentation. I'd recommend using your fingers to pack on these shimmers; a flat brush barely picks up any product, even with Mac Fix +. The product that does get picked up by the brush is very diluted once applied to the lids - it's no way as pigmented as it would be if you packed it on with your fingers. The shimmers last about 2 hours on the lids before fading when I've primed my lids. With glitter glue, the pigmentation is intensified and lasts all day on the lids with little to no fallout.
Myth is very blendable since it's so smooth and creamy. I love throwing this shade in my crease any time I need a neutral blending colour. Pixie and Mystic are also very blendable - they blend easily into the crease and outer corner shades. The others take a bit more work in order to blend with the outer corner shades - I go back and forth with a tiny bit of the lid and outer corner shades until I feel like my shadows are completely blended.
The highlighting powder is very gritty to the touch, but is not too chunky or glittery. It applies with an iridescent shimmer that isn't extremely pigmented and blinding (unlike the Becca highlighters).
The Tarte Make Believe In Yourself palette is a very beautiful palette. The shades give me such a whimsical feel, very fit for the unicorn trend. However, I wouldn't say this palette is a must-have, even at its reduced price. Tarte has created better-quality shadows that are worth the splurge, especially with the VIB discount (the Tarte Pro Palette, for example).
However, if you are an avid eyeshadow collector and are looking to spend some money on unique shades for your collection, then I'd recommend purchasing this palette with your VIB discount.
