Toolbox Cosmetics is a Canadian company focused on creating functional and efficient products. As a Canadian makeup lover, I am constantly looking for Canadian cosmetics brands to try, so I was ecstatic to test out some of their lip products.
The Toolbox Cosmetics Liquified Lipsticks (on sale now for CAD $15.99) and liquid velvet lipsticks come in the standard liquid lipstick tubes. Their brand's name is printed quite largely on the side of the tube, and the shade name is printed on a sticker on the bottom of the tube. The lipstick's cap is securely screwed onto the tube, ensuring zero leakage of the product. These have the standard doe-foot applicator, which in my opinion, make it pretty easy to apply liquid lipsticks.
The first product Toolbox Cosmetics had sent me is the Liquified Lipstick in the shade Kiss Me. It is a darker true red shade, that is just slightly lighter when applied compared to what you see through the tube. This liquid lip applies absolutely beautifully - one swipe will cover the entire lip with colour, while the second swipe will make the colour completely opaque. I very much appreciate pigmented liquid lipstick formulas - I'm definitely not a fan of liquid lips that require me to go back and forth with the wand in order to achieve my desired full-coverage pigment. This particular liquid lipstick takes a few more moments to dry down to a complete matte - if you are particularly heavy-handed in some areas, it will require more time to dry.
The liquified lipstick formula is not drying at all. I tend to avoid liquid lips in the winter season unless my lips are in very good condition. The first time I wore this, I had semi-chapped lips, and I was so surprised to see that it did not accentuate the dryness of my lips too much. Compared to other liquid lips I've tried, this was by far one of the best ones in terms of not settling around the dry patches of skin on my lips. This product is extremely long-lasting - I've worn this around for about 8-hours and it did not budge while I ate and drank to my heart's content.
After a mishap with the shipping of the Liquified Lipstick, Toolbox Cosmetics actually reached out to me and sent me a gift box to say sorry, which I think is SO sweet of them. The gift box (which is unfortunately not available on their website anymore) contains three mini Liquid Velvet Lipsticks in the shades Chit Chat (pinky-nude), Flannel (purple-taupe--mauve), and Door Prize (pinky-rose). I'm going to go ahead and talk about these in the hopes that Toolbox Cosmetics will carry this line permanently because HOLY GUACAMOLE, this formula is off-the-chains amazing.
The Liquid Velvet Lipsticks are liquid lipsticks that have a very mousse-y formula and dry down to a satin-matte finish. Again, you'll have to wait for a bit in order for them to dry down and be transfer-proof. What I love about these is that although they dry down to be transfer-proof, they look more satiny than matte on the lips (these are very comparable to the Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips, in my opinion). The best part about their formula is that it completely hides how dry my lips are. The first day I tested these (I wore the shade Chit Chat), I had such beaten down and chapped lips that I was utterly afraid of how my lips would look after applying a liquid lip. Chit Chat glided on so smoothly and did not emphasize any dryness or lines at all. After wearing it for 5-hours, the colour was still completely opaque - none of it had transferred onto the straw of my Booster Juice. It also did not dry my lips out as I continued to wear it like some other liquid lips tend to do.
The Toolbox Cosmetics liquid lipsticks have quickly stolen my heart, particularly the Velvet Lipstick formulas, which I seriously hope they bring it back to their website. Every shade I've tried is non-drying, pigmented, and long-lasting. The Liquified Lipsticks are definitely at a good price when they're on sale; at they're original price, they are just one dollar less than the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks (CAD $24) sold at Sephora. If you're itching to try out some of their liquid lips, I highly suggest grabbing them while they're still on sale!
